Look Good, For Good.
Jon Rose is a pro surfer-turned-activist whose life changed in September 2009 during a surf trip off the coast of Sumatra. While Jon was at sea, an earthquake (measuring a 7.6 magnitude) destroyed the city of Padang—killing over 1,000 people and leaving 100,000 homeless. Back on land, Jon was shocked to see the devastation. As part of this surf trip, Jon happened to already be on his way to Bali to deliver 10 water filters as part of a mission for Waves for Water—a non-profit organization aimed to bring clean water solutions to impoverished countries around the world. Making his way through the crumbled buildings in the early hours after the quake, Jon decided to use these water filters in Padang to help rescue workers and victims in need. Seeing how much these filters made a difference solidified Jon’s commitment to grow Waves for Water around the world. Since then, Jon has continued his efforts, including in Haiti following the devastating 2010 earthquake, where Waves for Water was able to provide clean water to more than 1.5 million people in need. The long-term goal for Waves for Water is to be proactive rather than reactive. As Jon passionately insists, “nobody should die from a lack of clean water.”
