BE STIGMA FREE FOR THE (MENTAL) HEALTH OF ALL

Share
It’s Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). Which means that as a stigma-free company, via our partnership with NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) we’re doing our part to get the word out.

NAMI works tirelessly, year-round, to raise awareness about mental illness, fight the stigmatization of those with mental health conditions, and advocate for equal care on their behalf. Which is crucial work—not only for the mental health and welfare of individuals—but for the health of our entire culture.

Fact: 1 out of 5 of U.S. adults experiences some form of mental illness each year—that’s over 40 million people. Which means it’s a near-certainty that you or someone you know is affected.

Example: someone we know—actress, activist, entrepreneur, and Courageous Class member, Corinne Foxx—lives with an anxiety disorder. And though it was diagnosed at age 14, she didn’t go public with it until earlier this year, in an article for Refinery 29. Now, through her ongoing work as an ambassador for NAMI, Corinne helps others come out of the shadows, into a world that’s increasingly educated about and accepting of mental illness in all its forms. (If you haven’t watched her Courageous Class video, in which she talks about anxiety, NAMI and more, check it out below.)

For MIAW 2017, we encourage you to join Corinne and us by taking the pledge to be stigma free. It only takes a minute, but it definitely makes a difference. And if you want to play a bigger role, learn more, or find additional resources, make your first stop the NAMI website—a hub of high-quality information about all things mental health.
