Yves was born to a French West Indian father and a Chinese mother, who—due to tough life circumstances—were forced to give him up for adoption. At age 4, Yves was adopted by an all-white family. Though his new family showed him endless love and support, Yves faced a lot of bullying in school. As a result of this, and the inner turmoil he faced in regard to his own sexuality, he became heavily addicted to drugs.
By 17, he dedicated himself to a sober life and went on to speak out about the dangers of drugs to high schoolers. His tattoos were a way for him to turn a negative into a positive, whether it be as an ode to a lost friend or some other life event that affected him deeply. He currently lives in NYC.
